Online Pregnancy Tests

What are online pregnancy tests ?

These programmes work by calculating if you are pregnant by asking you a selection of questions such as your age, number of days from first date of last period, birth control measures, estimated date conceived. They also ask about a number of symptoms such as whether you are bloated etc

These tests may be 'helpful', but should not be used for confirmation of pregnancy, they should be seen as a useful tool. They are no way near as accurate as a urine or blood test.

Baby Nursery Furniture

Baby Nursery Furniture

If your new baby is coming shortly, it ususally means its now time to get the nursery ready ready for their royal arrival! Nursery furniture is more like an investment for you and of course baby which will last for at least a few years. Some nursery cots convert into beds (Cotbeds) and last for longer. So you are going to want to really research and buy nursery furniture that will be good quallity, safe, long lasting, and the set that suits both of you.

The nursery will be the room where the baby and you will be spending a majority of your time. It is where the baby will first be experiencing the world they has been born into. The nursery room or baby room has to a place designed in a practical and pleasing manner.

When you start looking for baby furniture to buy, you will find that you will come across a large variety of choices and a wide range of designs! The essential factors that you need to take into consideration are your budget, the style you want, the comfort of the furniture and most importantly the safety. Here are the essential pieces of baby furniture that you will need.

Every parent first needs to buy a good baby crib. Baby Crib come in a variety of styles that you can choose from like a canopy, a convertible crib, a sleigh, and countless other kinds to choose from. Baby cribs also come in various colors to fit the theme of the room. You are going to want to get a mattress that secures comfort for the baby. Baby mattresses typically come in two types, the first being a foam pad and the second kind of mattress is one with an innerspring coil. Accessories that you will need with the mattress include bedding, crib sheets, crib wedges and waterproof mattress pads.

Then next thing that you are going to need are changing tables. Not only should the changing table be well padded but must have guardrails and safety straps for the baby. It normally comes with dresser drawers, open shelves or a combination of both. Accessories on a changing table include changing pads, organizers and wipe warmers. Rocking chairs are great for both the parent and the child. A rocking chair for the mother is a welcome gift as it will enable her to spend lots of quality time with her baby in the nursery comfortably. The rocking chair for the baby can be added to the nursery as the child starts to grow.

Baby dressers are also worth looking at. All baby nurseries needs a baby dresser or chest of drawers for the new born. It can be coordinated with the colors and themes of the nursery as well. You will need a portable travel crib. This is very useful for overnight trips or weekend getaways. A high chair is essential to have. This is needed as soon as the baby learns to sit. There are several types of high chairs including adjustable, conventional, booster and wooden. The most important part of a high chair is the safety index which should include an adjustable tray, locking mechanism, restraint and rolling castors which can be locked easily. If it has a fully reclining feature, it can be used for feeding as soon as the baby is born.

A car seat is a must, as the baby has to be restrained while in the car. These come in several styles such infant care seat, convertible and booster. You will need a stroller. A stroller is necessary as it facilitates the mother to go about her tasks of shopping, walking, etc with the baby comfortably seated in the stroller. They come in a standard variety, single and double, or even one that combines as a car seat. Most strollers have a canopy, front bar, harness, recliner and a storage space. Lastly you will need a baby monitor. A monitor can give the parents added reassurance that their baby is safe. There are several types: audio, audio/movement and audio/video monitors.

There are many ways to shop and find low priced pieces to use to decorate a room. Wholesale nursery furniture will often be much cheaper than purchasing from a retail store. These items can often be purchased from wholesale stores and warehouses. Finding great deals can also be accomplished by visiting yard sales or garage sales held by families. There are usually many opportunities to buy pieces that have not been used much by the family. The Internet is another good source for finding gently-used or discounted items. Search engines will be useful in locating stores that offer great prices on baby furniture and other pieces. Decorating for a baby's room can be expensive, making lower prices very appealing for the consumer. Considering that most children spend only a few weeks in bassinets and generally no more than 2 years in a crib, it is very wise to invest as little as possible in this type of expense.

For those who prefer new over used items, finding wholesale pricing is one of the best ways to find quality pieces at a reduced price. Wholesale baby furniture may be available from a wholesale outlet store. This type of store can be found throughout the country, most often in larger cities. Using the yellow pages can lead an individual to find a store that will offer quality cheap baby furniture that is new. There are numerous malls, stores, and warehouses throughout North Carolina where items can be purchased at wholesale prices. This can be a great way for consumers to find wholesale baby furniture for a child's room.

A garage sale, or rummage sale may be another fantastic place to find great values. Used pieces are a less expensive alternative tobuy nursery furniture if you are willing to look at pieces that have already been used. These types of sales can especially be found in the late spring, summer, and early fall months. Often sales will be held on the weekends for individuals to stop at the family's home to purchase products. Finding a sale will be easy if one knows where to look. Local newspapers, radio announcements, and signs will be utilized to advertise and promote these sales where cheap baby furniture prices can be found.

The Internet can provide some help for consumers looking for the best deals available. Using a popular search engine like Google, individuals can locate many websites that will be helpful in the search for cheap baby furniture. A simple Internet search will yield a variety of specialty clearance sites and discount providers. Our site is located at http://www.4little1s.com

Auction sites may also be helpful in the search. Using an auction site can be much like a yard or garage sale. Often the pieces that are available through an online auction are gently used and still in good condition. Some pieces on an auction site may also be brand new. Many stores or retailers offer furnishings and other items for sale at relatively low prices for consumers. Taking advantage of Internet and technology can be very helpful. The only disadvantage is that large items are very expensive to ship, so one must be sure that the cost to transport the item does not negate the discount.

Another baby .... ?

Want Another? Deciding Whether and When to Have Another Child

Many factors go into the decision to have more children, including the mother's age and family finances.
by Kathryn Sucich

Nicole Downing of Tewksbury, Massachusetts knows firsthand how tough being a parent can be.

Her 20-month-old daughter, Sarah, has already been treated for a number of medical conditions, including a hip problem and allergies to eggs, dairy and nuts.

Some parents might feel overwhelmed after having one child who requires so much attention. But Nicole and her husband, Michael Downing, are considering having another child in the near future.

When it comes to whether and when to have more children, there is no standard approach to making the decision. What's right for one family may be impossible for another, says Sandra Dupcak, a Framingham, MA-based clinical psychologist who specializes in working with children and families. In her practice, Dupcak sees couples like the Downings who are emotionally ready to handle another child within a couple of years of their first. Other couples need to wait four or five years - or even stop having children altogether - because they just can't handle the extra pressure, especially when one child requires special care.

"It's so dependent on the parents," Dupcak says. "What's stressful for one set of parents isn't for another."

For most parents, deciding whether and when or have another child is a careful balance - a weighing of the responsibilities involved, health considerations, older children's desire to have another sibling, and often a gut feeling. One thing is for sure: it's a decision that most parents don't take lightly.

Pregnancy Considerations
Say that you are leaning toward having more than one child. There's a lot of medical research on the optimal spacing of childbirths for both mother's and baby's health. A study published recently in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that mothers should space their pregnancies 18 to 59 months apart to reduce risks of preterm birth and low-birth-weight babies.

Of course, moms have their own ideas about healthy spacing between babies. Kathy Woolfrey, 31, a mom of two, has had two easy pregnancies so far, but says she needs time to recuperate between having children. As a physical therapist, she's required to do heavy lifting and bending on the job that can be difficult both during and after pregnancy

"I need to get my body back in shape after each pregnancy to lower my risk of injuring my back from weak, overstretched abdominal muscles," says Woolfrey. "I want my body to be my own again for at least a year before getting pregnant again."

Moms are also very aware of the connection between their age and health and their baby's health. Patti Urquhart, 28, is up to date on the latest medical statistics. When she had her 14-month-old son, Cameron, she was tested for Down's syndrome.

"My chances at 26 were something like 1 in 1,100. They told me that the older you get, the chances get extremely higher," says Urquhart. She and her husband, Jason, are hoping to have another child as soon as possible.

Downing would also like to have another child soon, and says she'd like to be done having kids by age 35. Health is not her main concern - rather, she realizes she'll probably have to stay home with her kids because of the rising cost of daycare; knowing this, she says, she'd like to re-enter the workforce by age 40.

"I work in the technology field and the longer I stay away, the harder it will be to get back into the swing of things," says Downing. "I want to be a great mom who can also work outside the home."

The Cost of Another Child
Work and finances are major drivers in parents' decisions on whether and when to have another child. There's good reason: a recent report by the National Association of child care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) says that the average cost of infant daycare in Massachusetts is $13,480, which represents nearly 15 percent of an average two-parent family's income.

First-time parents often struggle with the decision on whether to work outside the home or stay at home with their newborn. However, for second- and third-time parents, the staggering cost of daycare often forces an outcome: either one of the parents stays at home, or the couple waits until the older sibling is in school before having another baby.

There's no doubt about it - a new baby is expensive. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports that a two-parent family in the Northeast who makes between $43,700 and $73,500 each year can expect to pay just over $200,000 for a child during its first 17 years of life. If they make more than $73,500 a year, the cost shoots up to $286,000 for the same child. And that's even before the cost of college is factored in.

While many parents plan out their costs for a new baby, Rick Miller, founder of Sensible Financial Planning, based in Cambridge, says there are many costs that parents don't consider. For example, families may move to a bigger home to accommodate more children, as well as buy a more family-friendly car.

Woolfrey is thinking about the financial impact a third child would have on her family. "Even our Ford Explorer will not handle three car seats," she says. "That means upgrading to a bigger vehicle and spending more in gas per week."

And the Woolfreys are adding a second level to their two-bedroom ranch to make more room for their 2-year-old and 3-month-old sons, as well as the third child they'd like to have in a couple of years.

Thinking down the road, what about that cost of college? Miller says college costs are currently going up faster than inflation, and adds, "When that will end, we don't know." If costs continue to rise, he estimates, a baby born today who attends a private college or university in 2024 will be paying about $100,000 per year in tuition, room and board.

While that news is pretty sobering, Miller suggests ways to prepare for those costs, including:
a 529 savings plan, a tax-advantaged plan in which parents can sock away money for their children's educations; and alternatives to formal daycare, such as daycare offered by churches or nonprofits.

Parents might also consider finding a job that offers on-side daycare or sharing an au pair or nanny with other family members or friends.
Can You Handle Another?

Money aside, the other big issue that parents must contend with is whether they can handle the added stress and responsibility that comes with a second or subsequent child. According to Dupcak, each child has a unique personality and temperament, and one active or difficult child can impact a couple's decision on whether to have more kids. Parents themselves need to be able to work well together, to react to stress similarly.

"Raising children is extremely difficult to do well," says Dupcak. "How a couple works together, chooses to discipline and how they work out care - that's the centerpiece to whether couples decide to have more children."

Jennifer McLaughlin, 30, had her daughter when she was 22. She says the experience was so overwhelming that she never considered having more children. Now she's thinking about having another child in the next two years but is concerned that a newborn would completely change her family's life.

"I am very used to my life being the way it is now," says McLaughlin. "I'm not sure that throwing a newborn into the mix would quite work as well as it might have a few years ago."
A support system of family or friends is also important in a couple's decision to have more children, says Dupcak. She has found that couples who are isolated, either living away from family or living extremely busy lives, tend to have fewer children because they don't have a network of help available.

What's Best for the Older Kids?
A newborn impacts his parents' lives and those of his older siblings.

McLaughlin says her 8-year-old is used to being the center of attention and might not like a new baby taking some of her spotlight. But McLaughlin would also like her daughter to have a sibling so that she'll have family around when she's older.

That's a sentiment shared by a lot of parents, including Urquhart. "My sister and I are two years apart and she has been there for me every day," she says. "I would like to have Cam experience that, too."

And then there's that pure and simple joy that a new baby can bring to the whole family. Nicole Downing has faced difficulties with her daughter's medical problems and she acknowledges that her work and family life will change with another child. But when she thinks about having another baby, she says, "Who wouldn't want more children? Their sweet smell, their lovable coos and teaching and molding a fresh mind. Priceless!"

Play with Your Baby: How Fun Can Help Your Little One Thrive

Interacting with your child is vitally important. Researchers estimate that 50 percent of a human's brain development occurs in the first six months of life; 70 percent is complete by the end of the first year.
By Wendy S. Masi, Ph.D., and Roni Cohen Leiderman, Ph.D.

When you first bring a new baby home, your thoughts are usually full of the practical matters: how to keep your baby clean, warm, and well-fed; where to store the tiny diapers and clothes; how the stroller actually work; and getting some sleep.

Once the necessities are taken care of, there's something further that even the littlest baby needs in order to thrive: warm, playful interactions with the caretakers around him. Dozens of studies in recent years have shown that a child's sense of self-esteem and his ability to form close emotional ties with others greatly depends upon the quality of his bond with his parents. This bond can be enhanced by close, loving play. Indeed, for babies who cannot yet go to school or read a book, play is the primary way they learn.

The Incredible First Year
During the first 12 months, babies undergo a profound mental, physical, and social awakening. They learn to recognize their families, the cabinet with the crackers, and the playground with the big slide. They learn to support their heads, use their hands, roll over, sit, crawl, stand, and - in some cases - walk. And long before they are ready to speak, they understand a range of human communication, from body language (the quick head shake that discourages further food throwing) to some of the words you say.

Interacting with your child is vitally important throughout his life, of course. But in the first year play can be especially important and rewarding. Researchers estimate that 50 percent of a human's brain development occurs in the first six months of life; 70 percent is complete by the end of the first year. While much of this development has to do with genetic heritage, a good portion of a child's later intellectual, emotional, and physical life depends upon the kinds and amount of stimulation she receives in her earliest years.

All Kinds of Play
Play, even "stimulating" play, isn't really about force-feeding experiences, but is rather about understanding your baby's temperament: her likes and dislikes and her tolerance for and ability to adapt to stimulation. Some babies love to be rocked back and forth, while others strongly object. Some like to be chased; others are uncomfortable with such rowdiness. Respond to your baby's cues and follow her lead.

Babies have distinct cycles of rest and activity, attention and inattention. The best time for active play - swatting at toys, rolling balls, or knocking over blocks -is when your baby is receptive and alert. Opt for more passive play - listening to songs or snuggling up with a book - when he is subdued. Both types are important. It's the timing that counts.

Baby Play
Here are a few activities to get you on the road to great play with your baby:
Swaying, Swaying - She loves to hear your voice, she loves to feel your touch, and she loves to be rocked rhythmically from side to side. You can combine all three of these soothing elements by using your lap as a cradle and your voice as a lullaby. Sit in a chair with your baby lying on your thighs, her feet pointing toward your stomach. Cradle her head with your hands and gently sway yourself from side to side as you talk or sing to her.

The sensory stimulation provided by this activity - the sound of your voice, the feel of your hands, and the sight of your face - can reassure and soothe your baby. This activity may even put her to sleep. And as she approaches three months, smile and words may inspire her to coo and grin socially in return.

Airplane Baby - You may already have discovered that a classic "airplane" or "football" hold calms your baby when she's gassy, overwhelmed, or just tired. Combining a swinging or swaying motion and a rhythmic song with that firm hold around her belly can be even more calming. Just support your baby, tummy down, by holding her under her chest and belly with one or both of your arms. (But always be sure to support a newborn's head.) Then swing her gently to and fro while singing a song.

Parents around the world have spent many long hours comforting colicky babies by swinging them gently back and forth in an "airplane" hold. The steady pressure along the baby's tummy provides soothing warmth and tactile input. And with every passing week she'll practice lifting her head, neck, and shoulders so that she can look around and widen her baby's-eye view.

Eyes on Track - Even as newborns, babies display interest in sights and sounds. Try moving a brightly colored squeaking toy back and forth slowly in front of your baby's eyes. When she's focused on the toy, move it to the left and to the right. Don't go too fast or far afield, though. If she loses sight of the toy, she'll figure it simply doesn't exist, and she'll lose interest in the game altogether.

What's that sound? What's that movement? As your baby moves her head from side to side, she learns to locate the source of noises and keep track of an object's whereabouts. At around three months, she'll swipe at the toy, and at about four months, she'll grab at it.

Noisemakers - Whether the sound is familiar, like that of a musical mobile, or unfamiliar, like a new voice, noises intrigue even the very youngest babies. Create a primitive symphony of sound by stringing a number of noise-making objects - jar lids, lightweight rattles, or plastic and wooden spoons - on a rope or ribbon. Dangle and shake the noisemaker about twelve inches in front of your baby. Or string it across the crib and let him gaze up at it as you shake the rope or jiggle the objects for him, just don't leave him alone with this kind of toy.

Hearing the various sounds from the dangling objects will sharpen your baby's auditory awareness and his visual discrimination skills. Seeing the objects will help him focus. And in a few months, when your baby is able to swipe at objects, this activity can encourage him to develop his gross motor skills.

Babycycle - When he's first born, your baby has no idea that his body is actually separate from yours. But his expanding physical abilities will give rise to an increased interest in his own body parts that will last him well into toddlerhood. They also let him enjoy more physical, interactive games. In this simple exercise game, you very gently and very slowly move his legs in a bicycling motion, all the while talking and smiling at him to encourage him to wiggle his legs without your help. Before you know it he'll be grabbing his own little feet - and eventually pedaling all by himself!

By moving his legs for him, you let your baby feel his little legs and feet moving in a new way - each side of the body working in reciprocal movement. You'll also mimic an action he'll be using later on as he learns to crawl.

Baby Bedding for little ones

BABY BEDDING

It has been estimated that a new mother will enter her baby's nursery 3000 times in the first year of the baby's life so make sure you decorate it to make the room a special experience every time!

With online baby bedding shopping you will be able to survey countless fashions and designs for your baby boy or baby girl's crib from the comfort of your own chair. So sit back and relax because shopping for baby bedding should be even easier than changing diapers (trust me, I know!).

Some parents prefer to build their nursery's in newer, funkier cute designer baby bedding while others are more likely to choose classic bassinet or crib bedding. Regardless, remember the nursery is about creating a great environment for the baby and for you!
Baby Safety...

A very important consideration when shopping for your infants bedding is the baby's safety. 'Soft bedding' such as soft quilts, comforters, pillows and sheepskins can cause complications for the baby's breathing. So be sure to tuck in all blankets and sheets in the crib bedding while removing bulky pillows.

If your baby sleeps well you sleep well

Baby Born on 5th Ave

Read this in the paper and couldnt beleive it !

A pregnant woman successfully gave birth to a baby girl on Fifth Avenue across from Central Park Friday as cheering well-wishers applauded the doctors who delivered the child.
Mount Sinai nursing manager Lucille Nassery said she heard the mom-to-be screaming from inside her office - and instantly recognized it as the sound of a pregnant woman.
"I heard a woman screaming and I said, 'That's the sound of someone having a baby,' said Nassery. "That sound is different than someone screaming in horror."
Elizabeth Brew, who was 33-weeks pregnant, and her husband were less than a block away from the hospital in their SUV when the baby's head began to crown, Nassery said.
Nassery, physicians and hospital staff rushed equipment to the middle of Fifth Avenue, where a crowd had formed to watch Dr. Anya Kogan deliver the 4-pound, 13-ounce baby.
The baby girl was delivered in time for staff to rush the 39-year-old Brew to a second-floor delivery room less than a block away - where she then gave birth to a 5-pound, 5-ounce twin boy.

"I'm sure for the mother it was kind of a tense experience but for us it was actually a lot of fun," added Nassery.
Brew, who has two kids home in Scarsdale, was recovering at the hospital. The two babies were expected to remain for a few weeks because they were born premature.

Nursery Furniture

Baby Furniture Buying Guide from 4little1s.com

If you or someone you know has recently welcomed home a newborn baby: Congratulations! Pregnancy and parenthood are amazing, indescribable joys. It's also a huge responsibility. You will soon be spending most of your waking life making sure your son or daughter is comfortable, happy and, above all, safe.

If this is your first infant, the responsibility can be daunting enough, let alone the task of navigating a whole new world of nursery bedroom furniture. Never fear! This nursery baby furniture buying guide is here to help you figure out how to buy baby furniture for the nursery that will best serve your needs and the needs of your child.

What you need to know

Most every resource on baby furniture begins and ends with the topic of safety, and for good reason. Safety should be your number one consideration when you're shopping for each article of furniture. Luckily, with consumer advocate groups and trade organizations like the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), you can check products' compliance with an array of rigorous safety standards at a glance. After that, allow yourself some peace of mind! Once you know a product is certified, it can be much more relaxing, easy and fun to choose your nursery furniture.

Bassinets, cradles and Moses baskets
Before purchasing a baby crib, many new parents prefer that their newborn infant sleep in a bassinet or cradle or a Moses basket. Not only are they more lightweight and portable, making it easy to keep your sleeping baby nearby, but many parents also find a cozy, compact bassinet to be a comfort for their baby.

When you're choosing a bassinet or Moses crib, consider how frequently you'll be moving from room to room. Detachable, wheeled bassinets make great two-in-one stroller-sleeper combinations, while no-fuss wicker and rattan Moses baskets are easy to pick up and move. Also, consider how long your bassinet will be useful. While many parents treasure them long after they're outgrown, as soon as your child is able to roll over on her own (usually around 4 months), a lightweight bassinet or Moses bed can tip over, which means it's time to move up to a standard crib.

Cribs
Newborns spend a great deal of time sleeping. It's not uncommon for them to be asleep eighteen hours a day. But don't expect that to mean you'll have many full nights' sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, natural, predictable sleep patterns begin to emerge after the first few months and continue to develop as a baby ages. Most likely, you will become well-acquainted with the act of cradling your baby to and from his crib. Because you'll be putting him down at all hours of the day or night, it's important to look at cribs that make it all the more easy and safe.

Convertible cribs
Convertible cribs are so named because of their ability to transform from baby cribs to toddler beds, and sometimes, to full-size adult beds. Thanks to good planning, they have become extremely popular over the years. They're designed for convenience and stability, and convertible cribs let your baby keep a familiar piece of nursery furniture for years. You may be glad you invested in an expandable, adaptable piece of furniture when it comes time to shop for twin-size bedsteads and children's furniture a few years down the road.

Drop-side cribs
Many drop-side cribs are also convertible, so most likely you will be able to enjoy the conveniences of a convertible crib. One or two sides of the crib can be lowered, making it much easier to lay baby down without waking him up. Different methods of dropping the crib sides are available, so check to see if the crib you prefer has a method that would be easy for you. If you are right- or left-handed or how you hold your baby could make the difference in buying a crib with a one-hand, two-hand, knee or foot-engaged drop side.

Industrial cribs
Not just for day care professionals, industrial cribs make great auxiliary cribs for grandma's house or go-to beds for when you are traveling. They tend to be easier to move, sporting swivel casters and collapsible designs. Window cribs allow an unobstructed view of your baby through clear acrylic panels, and folding metal cribs are lightweight, compact and perfect for when your baby needs to sleep away from home.

Baby mattresses
Baby mattresses (whether they are bassinet mattresses, Moses basket mattresses or crib mattresses) should fit snugly in the bedframe and allow no more than two fingers (one inch) of clearance on any side between the cushion and the crib. Any small space can be a safety hazard, so your most essential mattress specifications are the dimensions. Also take into consideration your baby bed's mattress depth and spring tension. Links have been made between SIDS and soft baby mattresses, so to be safe, make sure your baby sleeps on his back on a firm mattress designed specifically for infants.
Baby dressers

The right baby dressers are as functional as they are good-looking. You might be surprised at how quickly these chests of drawers fill up. With diapers and other toiletries stored alongside baby's new articles of clothing, chest space and bedroom space will quickly become a hot commodity.

Baby dressers with built-in changing tables are particularly convenient for parents who want a changing table near a quick change of clothes. If you wish to use a dresser that's not changing table-ready, you can buy a changing pad that secures to the top of the dresser. In either case, baby dressers make wonderful nursery pieces that are useful after your baby is grown.

Baby Changing tables
Most parents will tell you that changing tables turn out to be very handy. Changing tables usually feature shelving to store changing aides, making frequent changings more comfortable and convenient for you and baby alike. Whether you choose a stand-alone changing table, an outfitted sideboard or a furnishing combined with a dresser, here are some things to look for:
Guardrails: Guardrails should be at least two inches high. A good, cedar wood changing table guardrail will also make it easier for you to keep a handle on your baby while sorting through wipes, diapers, clothing and other essentials.

Safety straps: Any modern changing table should come with safety straps standard. While you will probably become an expert in doing things one handed, taking both hands off your baby for any length of time requires you use the safety strap.

Height: Find something with short legs and a sturdy surface that's approximately waist-high. The less time you spend bent over, the happier and more effective parent you'll be. Your baby and your back will thank you.

Storage: Changing, like voting, is best done early and often, so everything you need should be close at hand. Many changing tables come with a few drawers; the more difficult those are for your baby to open, the better. If your changing table has shelves, store all of your changing supplies in baskets, so you can reach in for a fresh diaper or for baby powder without taking your hand of your baby.

After a few nursery furniture essentials, it can be tempting to skimp on something like a baby hamper. But a baby hamper will reward you in the long run by holding its own against blitzes of dirty baby clothes. Some baby hampers will have a machine-washable bag that detaches from a sturdy frame, to make things convenient. A great baby hamper will last years after your baby outgrows it as an appealing storage solution for toys, extra blankets or anything else you might need to tuck away. Baby Hampers - don't miss them off

Storage and organization
Baby furniture in the nursery is just the beginning. You might be surprised to one day look and find how much you've collected in the ways of diapers, clothes, supplies, toys, books and more. Managing the collection will be a great deal easier with the right storage and organization on your side.
Open baskets are a time-honored, fantastic way to keep your essentials in working order. They keep baby's small, essential items in sight and at an arm's reach. If your nursery is a bit smaller, consider a storage tower that satisfies your hamper and storage needs in one. See the range at 4little1s.com

Some common questions about baby furniture

How can I be sure my crib is safe?
First, check for JPMA certification. Second, beware of used or antique nursery furniture. Crib safety means making sure you have a firm, fitted mattress, sturdy assembly without any missing or broken pieces or hardware, no more than 2 3/8 inches between slats, no corner posts over 1/16 inch high and no cutouts in the headboard or footboard. Anything with JPMA certification won't have hazardous materials, but if you are concerned about finishes or lead paint (especially in anything built prior to 1974), contact your city or county government's lead paint program.

New nursery furniture is expensive. What's wrong with a classic?
The idea of using antique or lightly-used furniture -- especially when money is tight -- can be tempting but risky. While it's a romantic idea to use baby furniture that's a family heirloom, a gift from grandparents to grandchildren or a gift from godparents to godchildren, safety should always be your first, second and last consideration. And if you have to justify new nursery furniture expenses, just remember the deals you're finding on 4little1s.com

What baby furniture will I need outside of the nursery?
One essential is a portable changing pad. Pads with upturned corners do a great job of keeping your baby in place. High chairs are indispensible for when your baby is old enough to eat at the table. Swings can be perfect for putting a smile on fussy babies' faces. Of course, for the ultimate in parent-child relaxation, nothing beats a living room rocker or glider.

Baby Bedding Buying Tips For First Time Parents

Buying baby bedding for your newborn baby may seem overwhelming if you are a first time parent. Even experienced parents have a hard time buying baby crib bedding for their newborn baby's nursery.

The good news is you can buy baby bedding that is useful, meaningful and cute AND have a fun time while doing it. All you need to know is the ins and outs of buying baby bedding for babies. So let's find out what baby bedding is all about.

Baby Bedding Basics

The first step you should take before you even think about buying baby bedding is deciding what you need to complete your baby's nursery. The chances are high you will not decide on a theme for your baby's nursery before you start shopping around, so it makes sense to first make a list of baby bedding supplies.

Some baby bedding supplies are "necessary" items that your baby will need. Examples of necessary items including crib sheets, blankets and baby bumpers for your newborn. Then you can start thinking about baby bedding accessories. Let's start by reviewing each of these baby bedding categories.

Baby Bedding Necessities

Crib sheets and light blankets are items your baby will not be able to live without. There are many different varieties of crib sheets and blankets available. Many are made of high quality, soft and durable cotton, while others include a mixture of materials. Baby blankets also come in many different textures including cotton, chenille, corduroy, suede and more.
You'll want to buy a large enough supply of crib sheets so you don't have to do laundry every day. You should also invest in a mattress pad that goes underneath your baby's crib sheet. Why? Babies are notorious for "leaking" out of their diapers, and when they do you will want back up supplies readily available.

Your baby's first blanket should not be too heavy. A heavy blanket may pose a suffocation risk for your baby. Most baby bedding sets come with thin quilts you can place on your baby to keep them warm safely. Receiving blankets are another good choice.

Many new parents have concerns about their baby's temperature, and rightly so. You don't want your baby to be too warm, but you also don't want your baby to be too cold. Flannel sheets may be a good idea for the winter, but an even better idea is dressing your baby in a sleeper and onesie so they have enough layers to keep them warm.

There are some baby bedding sets made of fine wool that have sheets or blankets that will also help keep your baby warm and cozy as they sleep.

You'll also want a baby bumper to protect your baby' s head and limbs. Little baby's limbs can become stuck or wedged between the railings on a crib, and their small heads can press against the railing causing discomfort. So look for a baby bedding set that comes complete with a matching baby bumper if you can.

Baby Bedding Accessories There are many baby bedding accessories you can buy to complete the look and feel of your baby's nursery. Some examples include:

Musical Mobiles
Duvets and Pillows
Nappy Stackers
Toy Bags
Wall Hangings
Window Valance
Moses Bed or Bassinet
Throw rug
Wall Border

How fancy you design your newborn baby's room is up to you. Remember that as your baby gets older, they will have more of an interest in exploring their surroundings. They will eagerly watch a musical mobile or stare up at a cute wall hanging. A wall border and well-designed wall hanging can easily grow with your baby. Many baby bedding collections are easily transformed from a baby nursery to a toddler room.

You can even buy a convertible cot if you like, so you can keep the same baby bedding from the time your baby is a newborn until they are three or four. So keep this in mind when shopping for your baby bedding and accessories too. While your newborn baby will not need a pillow or duvet, a toddler may find much use for it as they get older.

The easiest way to decide what you need is to create a list of your "must have" items. Then start browsing baby bedding collections and start deciding on the types of themes you like. Once you do that, you can review the accessories available for each baby bedding collection and decide which will fit your baby's room best.

Make baby bedding buying a fun process. Involve your partner and have a fun time with it. Your joy and enthusiasm will shine through when your baby's nursery is complete!

Actinic

Actinic case study

4little1s.com the online baby bedding and nursery furniture retailer decided to use Actinic after a recommendation from another company already using the software and a 30 day FREE trial.

Once the idea had been hatched to form 4little1s and our sales channel being the Internet, we looked at a number of software solutions ranging from a system that assumed you were some kind of highly technical software developer, right through to a fully hosted solution that was completely hands off and only needed us to tell the company what we wanted and it was done. Clearly there were considerations of each to take into account, such as the idea of being hands off in terms of the technology was somewhat appealing as it would allow us to concentrate on the business rather than the technology, it was expensive and we didn’t really have control.

The best example of this being to upload products and add special offers etc would involve a cost each time and we envisaged these costs could spiral out of control OR make us reluctant to change content due to cost implications.

At the other end of the scale, we didn’t want to be immersed with the technology and having to virtually be software developers for our website.

Enter Actinic……we evaluated Actinic after being recommended it as a good solution for our business in terms of not needing to be a full blown developer to manage the site and at the same extent we could outsource some of the design and other elements of the website.

The 30 day evaluation from their website was a great introduction to the software and literally within minutes we had a test website with content! The templates that were available were great and had everything from a fun style and look, right through to a more formal corporate style.

One of the benefits (and not like some of the other products we evaluated), if after the 30 days had expired and you wanted to buy the product you could keep the website you had set up and put the hard work into and you simply needed to add the key to make the product live.

While we did have the website designed for us eventually these were kept at a minimum due to the flexibility of the product and allowed us to concentrate on getting the business going.

We have been recently in contact with a number of SEO companies that specialise in optimising our website and we have been going from strength to strength.

‘Having been trading for over a year now and making a profit, Actinic has been a major part of the success of 4little1s.com’ said Christianne James, Sales and Marketing Director.

We are currently selling two nursery furniture sets a month which are around £900 each and roughly 30 – 40 bedding sets per month at an average price of £90 per set.
