10 things people don't tell you

Ten Things People don't tell you about having a Baby

Have you ever thought that when people tell you about having a baby and all he great things about it, that they might be skipping over some of the finer details?

Here is a list of ten things in no particular order thinking back for me that are worthwhile knowing:

Number one: If you decide to wait until you have ticked off all the signs before you decide to head towards the hospital for delivery …don't ! It is much better to arrive early rather than late…and navigating a busy M25 motorway in rush hour when you REALLY need to get where you are going to is not the best.

Number two: Regardless of what anyone tells you, there is no such thing as a typically delivery. Is seems to be a luck of the draw and you could end up with a long drawn out delivery or could be a super quick one and you are out of the hospital before you know it ! (Lucky you!) Either way it will be a story you are likely to repeat to any new mums as they ask 'how was it for you? '

Number three: This really links into number two point, Birth plans. While you may have mapped it out minute by minute as to what will happen and a step by step action plan, you shouldn't expect this to be exactly what happens. See it more of a list of activities that would be nice to happen rather than a checklist you need to tick off.

Number four: I am sure you have read a number of magazine and books all on pregnancy and other peoples' experiences. Just remember it is just that, OTHER peoples experiences and you shouldn't assume this is how it will be for you. I read a particular UK book on pregnancy and it told me as baby appears you will feel a slight heated and burning sensation.....hmmm I think it was a bit more than that !!

Number five: If your partner is there during labour, you may not feel like whispering sweet nothings into your partner's ears or other romantic gestures.

Number six: You may not fall head-over-heels in love with your new baby right
away and on first sight. The fact that you'd rather rest for awhile and take a nap than spend a lot of time ooooooohing, cooooing and aaaaaaahhing over the new baby arrival does not automatically mean you've blown your nomination for Mother of the Year or other prizes out of the water.

Number seven: Blood clots you pass during the first few hours after the delivery
may be the size of a small lemon. If your mums compares the bleeding
she had after the delivery to "a severe menstrual period," it may just be possible she
has forgotten a few of the finer details.

Number eight: It is possible that you will experience some nipple soreness after the first few days of breastfeeding. Like most things though it just takes a little time to get going

Number nine: You'll be slimmer after the delivery, looking about four or five months pregnant.

Number ten: Ok get ready for 3am feeds, crying sessions, nappies, nappies nappies, and nappies
