The type of tea you drink and what it says about you

What type of tea you drink says about you

Tea is an interesting one as most people who appreciate tea tend to drink it at home in their own favourite mug or cup. Generally you hear people say ‘ Do you want to pop out for a coffee ?’ ‘...going to a coffee morning ‘ etc etc, Tea seems to get second place for some reason ? How about when you have finished a nice meal out, cup of tea for you Madame / Sir ? or does the waiter say ‘Two Coffees ?’ Interesting isn’t it when you think about it. Some people even bring their own special pot to brew it in, not washed out of course as this gets rid of the build up of taste.

Earl Grey

Afternoon tea served traditionally at 4pm, Plain, black Tea, infused with the citrus flavour of bergamot , Air of superiority , takes time to appreciate the finer delicate detail of the flavour. Drinkers who take this tea without milk offer an air of pretentiousness. Take milk with it and you are trying to look posh but missing the point. (LOL – I Iove Earl Grey with milk, in fact drinking one now!)

Even Captain Picard (Star Trek drinks it) so it must be good ......

Builders Tea

Drink du jour, usually a jolly and creative type of person, spontaneous activities in you, but kept in control. You know what you are getting with a builders tea drinker

Chai

Trendy and cool, see the option appearing in coffee bars recently ? You embrace change with both hands (and feet) try new things even if just once. Quite a sweet little milky drink and not a million miles away from the sugary, caffeine free latte.......small kids like sweet drinks.

Lapsang Souchong - 拉普山小種/正山小种

Lapsang souchong is a member of the Wuyi Bohea family of teas and is smoky, similar to the smell of a campfire in fact !. .....’Oh darling ! how was New York ? ‘Are you precious ?

Don’t get me started on the whole bone china thing.....or milk first then tea or tea then milk ?

New Baby Hampers

New Baby Hampers just in......great for that office collection

How to choose a Samsonite Travel Cot
Ok, so what exactly are Travel cots then ? Well, they are like little mobile cots for your little one, that you can fold up and put away into a neat bag to take away with you. Most fit in the boot of a car and can be transported around. Although you probably don't want to walk too far with one. Most travel cots have a plastic or metal frame, and a firm base with a folding, lightly padded mattress.

OK So Do I 'really' need a travel cot then?

Ask yourself if if you will be planning on making regular overnight trips to cot-free homes such as friends, parents or grandparents. Even if they do have a travel cot, sometimes its worth getting one anyway so baby has a familiar environment. Usually they are cheap enough to buy one to have at a parents house and keep it there....an idea anyway.

Some hotels even have them available to save you packing one if you are planning on travelling light.

Travel cot pro

'Freedom...................freedom.....'

Freedom to travel pretty much anywhere. Some of the Samsonite travel cots we have, even have mosi nets on them !

Travel Cots cons

Travel cots generally do take up a fair bit of space, can be heavy and probably not going to be used loads.

The Fine Art of Folding and storaging a Travel cot

When looking for travel cots, check out the folding mechanics and ensure you know how to do it easily. Make sure its smooth to do, easy and no nasty trappy bits for fingers. Usually a handle or hoop you pull on will open it up or push it out. Stick to well know makes like Samsonite so you know its made well.

Travel cots for young babies

Some Moses baskets come with a bassinet for newborns, but generally they’re not designed for very young babies as they don’t have drop-down sides or adjustable mattress heights.

A soft carrycot or Moses basket can be just as portable but more suitable for newborns, and you can also buy lightweight fold-up travel carrycots from a range of baby catalogues.

It maybe worth in some cases buying an economical cot to store at your parents house.

Moses baskets

Moses baskets are designed to provide your new baby with a secure and comfy sleeping place. Moses baskets are mostly made from natural palm leaf, Moses baskets are light and have carry handles so you can move your sleeping baby if necessary.

See our HISTORY OF MOSES BASKETS article for some fun, if you really are that interested  :-))

It’s generally better to not carrying your baby around in the moses basket if possible, particularly if the handles don’t meet in the middle. ...it may break !

The basket also provides no protection if you slip or trip on the stairs.

You can place the Moses basket on the floor, or you can buy a fold-away stand to place the basket on next to your bed, enabling you to reach your baby easily for night-time feeds. Check this has a safety catch to prevent accidental closing.

A PVC-covered foam mattress will normally be included with the basket, and often a canopy of hood, lining and quilt.

Heard of a Carrycot ?

Well let me tell you more then......A carrycot is a stronger version of a Moses basket. If you have a carrycot option on your pushchair, you could use this as your baby’s main sleeping place for the first few early weeks.

However, you may end up spending a lot of time removing and refitting the carrycot to the base, and you may need to buy a mattress suitable for night-time sleeping.

You can buy separate carrycots although they’re not as widely available as Moses baskets. Choose one that’s fairly lightweight as you may need to move your baby in it while he or she is sleeping.

Nursery Bedding

Nursery Bedding @ 4little1s.com

Haven't posted for a while so thought I should add a quick item on the nursery bedding we have recently added. As well as the Lollipop Lane and Izziwotnot ranges, we have now noticed a real trend of people buying for leaving presents from work for people leaving to have babies from Bedebyes.

Interestingly enough the trend has been 50 / 50 in terms of blue and pink ranges which makes for interesting reading if you have the time.

Anyway, The new range we now have is from Bedebyes and is a real treat if you have been selected as the person to buy the leaving present for the new family.

Moses Baskets

MOSES BASKET ADVICE - 4little1s.com

Many of our loyal customers over the years, ask us about Moses Baskets, anything from what colour do we think is best, what is a Moses basket anyway, right through to some fairly technical questions about density of fabric and even the atomic weight ….of all things !

Well, as a mother of two and having gone through the process myself, I feel fairly qualified to answer most questions about Moses baskets. Most people class Moses baskets as the first bed for their little one. The first part and addition to the nursery, although most people have the baby in the same room as them at this stage.

Lets start with one of the really simple questions about Moses baskets, one that is the most popular Moses basket question asked at 4little1s.com…….’Errr, so what exactly is a Moses Basket then?

Well, it’s a technically a piece of nursery furniture that is put onto the floor where your baby will sleep in for the first time once you are home. Most often it’s not put into the nursery as it’s usually put into your room. You can also buy Moses basket stands that raise the Moses basket and puts baby in line with you in your bed. This helps with avoiding quite so much back strain when lifting and replacing baby into the Moses Basket.

‘Mums been there seen it twice and have the T shirt tip1’ – ‘If you buy a Moses basket stand, make sure its sturdy and of good quality, as the last thing you want is a rocking Moses basket!

Moses Basket designs, makes and fabrics, range from every colour under the rainbow and indeed, a lot more. It’s worth spending a little more and getting a ‘quality’ Moses basket, as with most things, you get what you pay for. We always recommend the Izziwotnot Moses basket, based on the many customers who have bought these from us and the feedback we get from new mums.

‘Mums been there seen it twice and have the T shirt tip 2’ – Go for quality when looking for a Moses basket, and ask a genuine mum, who has been there before you, what they think.

Over the years there have been many different styles and manufactures of Moses baskets, but generally they have all stayed the same in their traditional styles. Many Moses baskets holding the natural reed and historical feel and look over the years. Many of the natural and organic Moses Baskets are made from canary grass reed (This is the grass that is found along margins of lakes, streams or in wetlands). All Moses baskets hold the same concept in design, in that the walls of the Moses Basket are strong enough to stop baby from falling out of the Moses Basket.

‘Mums been there seen it twice and have the T shirt tip 3’ Quite often, Moses Baskets have hoods that allow shade. This can be particularly useful in countries where the sun shines (clearly not the UK J )

Moses baskets are exceptionally excellent at being portable and most baskets have carry handles on each side. Moses baskets are generally small enough to move around your home pretty easily without much fuss.

In summary, Moses baskets will probably be your first purchase, and your first introduction into buying nursery furniture for your little one, so buy wisely and go for quality. A good night sleep for baby and yourself is worth a million pounds….

10 things people do not tell you about having a baby !!!!!

10 things people don't tell you

Ten Things People don't tell you about having a Baby

Have you ever thought that when people tell you about having a baby and all he great things about it, that they might be skipping over some of the finer details?

Here is a list of ten things in no particular order thinking back for me that are worthwhile knowing:

Number one: If you decide to wait until you have ticked off all the signs before you decide to head towards the hospital for delivery …don't ! It is much better to arrive early rather than late…and navigating a busy M25 motorway in rush hour when you REALLY need to get where you are going to is not the best.

Number two: Regardless of what anyone tells you, there is no such thing as a typically delivery. Is seems to be a luck of the draw and you could end up with a long drawn out delivery or could be a super quick one and you are out of the hospital before you know it ! (Lucky you!) Either way it will be a story you are likely to repeat to any new mums as they ask 'how was it for you? '

Number three: This really links into number two point, Birth plans. While you may have mapped it out minute by minute as to what will happen and a step by step action plan, you shouldn't expect this to be exactly what happens. See it more of a list of activities that would be nice to happen rather than a checklist you need to tick off.

Number four: I am sure you have read a number of magazine and books all on pregnancy and other peoples' experiences. Just remember it is just that, OTHER peoples experiences and you shouldn't assume this is how it will be for you. I read a particular UK book on pregnancy and it told me as baby appears you will feel a slight heated and burning sensation.....hmmm I think it was a bit more than that !!

Number five: If your partner is there during labour, you may not feel like whispering sweet nothings into your partner's ears or other romantic gestures.

Number six: You may not fall head-over-heels in love with your new baby right
away and on first sight. The fact that you'd rather rest for awhile and take a nap than spend a lot of time ooooooohing, cooooing and aaaaaaahhing over the new baby arrival does not automatically mean you've blown your nomination for Mother of the Year or other prizes out of the water.

Number seven: Blood clots you pass during the first few hours after the delivery
may be the size of a small lemon. If your mums compares the bleeding
she had after the delivery to "a severe menstrual period," it may just be possible she
has forgotten a few of the finer details.

Number eight: It is possible that you will experience some nipple soreness after the first few days of breastfeeding. Like most things though it just takes a little time to get going

Number nine: You'll be slimmer after the delivery, looking about four or five months pregnant.

Number ten: Ok get ready for 3am feeds, crying sessions, nappies, nappies nappies, and nappies
