Nursery Furniture

Nursery Furniture

When looking for nursery furniture for your baby, there are so many choices and options available to you, it can be a little complicated as to where to start. It may well be that some of the choices that will be rattling through your mind are which brand to buy, which colour, which store (can I buy it online ?) which sets are recommended by the baby magazine and online forums, can I buy a matching set…so on and so on and so on…..

Before we get started, if you look here you will see the full range of NURSERY FURNITURE we stock

Buying nursery furniture need not be a complicated task, and in fact we have seen a large number of grandparents buying the furniture in the first place for their new little grandson / grand daughter to give the family a little jump start.

The main components of nursery furniture set consist of a cot or a cot bed for your little one to sleep in. A changing top, which is a piece of wood usually that can be placed over the top of the cot / cot bed and allows you to change baby easier as baby is at waist level for you. A chest of drawers is another piece of nursery furniture that potentially could be used instead of a cot top changer and of course double up as…….a chest of drawers ! You will be amazed at the amount of ‘stuff’ you will accumulate as you little one grows, and so it is that a chest of drawers allows you to put all those baby grows, nappies and so on. A tallboy or wardrobe is another piece very often included in nursery furniture sets for little ones. These allow you store more baby clothes and shoes that will be added to your collection for sure. While we are talking about a storage theme, it is worth being aware that some cot or cot beds come with under cot storage …….. very handy to store all the goodies for baby that need to be near to hand and avoids the need to go through rummaging through drawers and wardrobes.

Glider Chairs

In some nursery furniture packages, they include something called a glider chair (sometimes called nursing chairs, baby rocking chairs or slider chairs). In essence, these are wooden chairs that rock back and forth but specifically designed with baby in mind. They allow mums to feed or read to baby while rocking gentle back and forth. Glider chairs can vary in prices from under a hundred pounds to many hundreds of pounds. Glider chairs come in lots of different designs and colours in order to match the other pieces of your nursery. Look for glider chairs that have different rocking patterns such as not just back and forth motion, look for chairs that you can adjust the angle of the rocking mechanism. Another tip being look for chairs with thicker cushions on the base and cushioned arm rests

You can see a selection of Glider Chairs here to give you an idea of what is available to complement your nursery furniture: GLIDER CHAIRS

Another point to consider where looking to purchase nursery furniture is that if you buy the furniture in a set, you have a much better chance of the pieces all being made in the same batch. Buying individually means you may not find the same shade or grain as the each other. Also, if you buy a Cot and then look around elsewhere a few months later for the wardrobe, cot top changer etc from another supplier you may be disappointed to find out that they have been discontinued or out of stock. Never mind ‘should have gone to Spec Savers’,…..,,,,should have bought a nursery furniture set !

Nappy Stackers while not strictly a furniture item for your nursery, they provide a good storage item to stack the endless supply of nappies you will need. While you can just store them in an under cot drawer storage device or the wardrobe or chest of drawers, a nappy stacker can be tied to the cot / cot bed making it easy and within hand to ‘grab another nappy’. Other nursery accessories that will compliment your furniture set include items such as height charts, wall art pictures, light switch covers, curtains and tiebacks, bookends and mobiles that will bring your nursery alive.

Another item to consider with your nursery furniture set purchase is the style and type of baby bedding. Maybe you already have the baby bedding and are looking to match the furniture to the bedding OR vis versa, trying to match the furniture to the bedding. Either way, look to match the wood with the colour of the bedding or order to achieve the coordinated nursery look. Baby bedding sets usually consist of lots of different bedding items such as cot bumpers, quilts, sheets, fleece blankets, duvets etc etc. Our recommendation is to buy baby bedding in something called bedding bales (bales including lots of different pieces of bedding in a bundle).

The age old cot verses cot bed argument

Do you buy a cot or a cotbed ? Well this old chestnut is something that does the rounds quite often and really comes down to your view on the following. If you buy a just a cot, it tends to be cheaper and not so heavy. Bear in mind of course, that as your little one grows, the cot will suddenly not be large enough. You will then need to buy another piece of nursery furniture ….. a junior bed. Now if you go for a cot bed first of all while they do tend to be a little more expensive and heavier, as your little baby grows and outgrows the cot, you already have the extra piece of furniture, i.e. the Cotbed. It is a question that we are asked often, and it really comes down to your view on the above, there is no right or wrong answer.

A good few phrases to search on the Internet for when looking for nursery furniture would be things like, nursery furniture UK (or which ever country you are located in), baby furniture, coordinated baby furniture, nursery baby furniture, furniture sets for little ones. If you know the brand of nursery furniture you would like to buy, type in something like nursery furniture or nursery furniture uk . SO for example if you liked the Izziwotnot range of furniture, you would type in Izziwotnot nursery furniture, or nursery furniture uk izziwotnot. Likewise if it was Lollipop Lane or Saplings, just put the brandname in and the word nursery furniture and you wont go wrong. Sounds a little complicated, but its not once you get the hand of it.

Finally, when thinking about your nursery furniture purchase, look for companies that offer the assembly service for you. This means you get an expert arrive (usually with the delivery) from the manufacturer themselves and professionally assemble the set for you. They will even clean up after themselves and take away all the packing material. All you need to do is tell them where you want the nursery furniture assembled and make the tea or coffee….ok, well maybe a biscuit as well !

A good nursery furniture online retail is of course 4little1s.com and you can view the sets at our website www.4little1s.com
